Wind Energy Push: Max Bögl Receives the First of Five Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 Mobile Cranes
The Max Bögl Group has taken delivery of the first of five Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 mobile cranes ordered to keep up with booming demand for wind turbine hybrid towers. The 800-tonne-class machine is already hard at work in Papenburg.
Five cranes for the energy transition
Bögl ordered the five 750-tonne cranes at the start of the year; the remaining four will arrive in stages by February 2027. CEO Stefan Bögl travelled to the Liebherr plant in Ehingen in person for the handover of the first unit, underlining what the investment means for the company’s in-house construction machinery fleet.

Hybrid towers: concrete meets steel
Max Bögl is Germany’s market and technology leader for hybrid wind turbine towers, which combine a concrete lower section with a steel top. The concrete tower alone is assembled from more than 30 individual rings — up to 60 tonnes each and up to 12 metres in diameter — and can reach 110 metres.
Baptism of fire in Papenburg
The first LTM 1750-9.1 went straight from the factory to Papenburg in northern Germany, where it has 17 weeks to erect 20 concrete towers for turbines with 164-metre hub heights. That means lifting loads of up to 56 tonnes to 86 metres, with the 52-metre telescopic boom extended by lattice sections to a roller head height of around 100 metres. Site manager Florian Herdegen reports that positioning the concrete rings with millimetre precision — in changing weather — is running smoothly.
