Terex launches CTL 702-32 luffing jib tower crane with 32 t capacity

Where it sits in the range

The CTL 702-32 is a luffing jib tower crane offering a maximum lifting capacity of 32 tonnes, available up to a jib radius of 28 m. At its full 70 m jib the crane still lifts up to 6 tonnes at the tip. Terex also points to free-standing height figures it describes as highly competitive for the class, which matters on high-rise and large-footprint sites where every additional tie reduction saves programme time and cost.

Like the rest of the current Terex tower crane line-up the machine is electrically driven, which the manufacturer positions as both an emissions and an energy-efficiency argument on urban sites. The luffing winch is described as high powered, aimed at cycle speed rather than headline capacity alone.

Assembly, maintenance and safety

Much of the development effort went into erection and dismantling. Terex has standardised pins and bolts across the crane, cut the number of tools needed and reduced the count of cables and connectors a technician has to deal with. The main assembly is completed on the ground, which keeps work at height to a minimum during rigging. Enclosures and handrail protection are fitted to reduce the risk of dropped objects and to give better protection during maintenance, operation and assembly.

A slack rope system is also fitted. By preventing slack rope conditions, it is intended to keep the hoist under control in situations that could otherwise compromise crane stability or load security.

Control systems

Two control features are new or newly combined on this model. The T-Line system holds a consistent load height while the jib luffs, so the hook does not rise and fall as the radius changes — a function that removes a good deal of compensating hoist work from the operator during placement. T-Torque inverter technology handles slewing, giving operator-adjustable torque control for smoother starts and stops.
