Lubrication-free by design: Demag’s DBH belt hoist targets cleanrooms and dust-laden halls alike
Demag has brought a belt hoist to market that dispenses with wire rope and chain altogether. The DBH runs on a cross-woven Dyneema fibre belt, needs no lubricant anywhere in the load path and handles up to 6,300 kg.
Why a belt instead of a rope or chain
The Demag DBH replaces the wire rope or load chain of a conventional hoist with a belt woven from high-strength polyethylene fibre. That single change removes the grease and oil that normally migrate out of a hoist and onto whatever is underneath it — a persistent nuisance in food, pharmaceutical and cleanroom production, and a maintenance burden in cement works and powder handling plants.
Running a flat belt over a drum also eliminates the polygon effect that a chain produces as it engages the sprocket. Demag says the result is a genuinely steady lift with no hook twitch, which matters when a load has to be set down to a fixed position rather than simply moved from A to B. The hoist body is fully encapsulated, so particles and liquids stay inside the unit.
Ratings and duty
The DBH is rated to 6,300 kg with lifting heights up to nine metres. Lifting speed is adjustable between 0.5 and 20 m/min, either in two steps via a pole-changing motor or steplessly through a frequency inverter — enough range to cover both fast cycle work and slow, precise positioning. IP55 protection is standard and IP66 is available as an option.
Demag rates the Dyneema belt for load capacity, UV stability and abrasion resistance, and states that it can be cleaned with a high-pressure washer. The mechanical design is intended to keep fine abrasive dust away from the motor, gearbox and electrical components as well as from the belt itself, which the manufacturer links directly to service life in dusty plants.
Where it fits
A compact monitoring unit logs the relevant operating data, which Demag positions as the basis for condition-based maintenance planning rather than fixed-interval servicing. Option packages include stainless steel hooks, bottom blocks, electrical housings and wheels, two-stage travel limit switches, and protective and fall-arrest shields.
The hoist can be installed stationary, on a manual or electric trolley, or integrated into a Demag KBK light crane system. Demag lists food production, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, battery and automotive manufacturing, cleanroom processes and dust or powder handling as target applications.
