Two jibs, 110 m of hook height: Kato takes its all terrain range to 300 tonnes with the KA-3000RX
Kato Works has launched the KA-3000RX, a 300-tonne all terrain crane offering a 55 m main boom and a choice of two jib systems — a 35 m self-erecting super luffing jib or a 54 m heavy lift jib that takes maximum hook height to 110.7 m.
Boom and two jib options
The KA-3000RX pairs a 55 m main boom with two distinct jib systems, which is the crane’s main point of difference. The super luffing jib runs from 10.85 m to 35 m on a 2.0 m base section, offsets between 0° and 60°, lifts up to 24 tonnes and reaches 92 m of hook height at a maximum radius of 70 m. Crucially it is self-deploying, so no assist crane is needed to rig it — a saving in both cost and set-up time on a 300-tonne class job.
The alternative heavy lift jib is built from a 4.4 m base plus sections of 13, 22, 31, 40, 47 or 54 m, offsets from 10° to 60° and takes up to 84 tonnes. At full extension it reaches 110.7 m of lifting height and 85 m of radius. Kato has designed it to be assembled vertically so it can be rigged in confined space, and hydraulically removable connecting pins cut the amount of work carried out at height.
Counterweight and superstructure
Total counterweight is 105 tonnes, made up of four 10-tonne slabs, eight 6-tonne slabs and a base weight. The side-base weights detach, which allows the crane to work with counterweight fitted inside the carrier width, and a common slab shape eases the restrictions on stacking order so configurations can be changed to suit the site. Tail swing is 5.5 m with counterweight and 4.4 m without.
The superstructure runs a Daimler OM906LA rated at 205 kW at 2,200 rpm and 1,100 Nm at 1,200 rpm. New equipment includes a radio controller for rigging and de-rigging, outrigger reaction force display, LED work lights and an external ACS indicator; a left-rear camera, winch camera and searchlight are standard.
Carrier
Carrier power comes from a Daimler OM502LA producing 405 kW at 1,800 rpm and 2,600 Nm at 1,300 rpm, with SCR after-treatment to cut NOx. The carrier uses electronically controlled rear steering with speed-dependent steering angle, several steering modes and a visual display of steering state, and all wheels have full air disc brakes with a pad-wear warning lamp. The cab is a walk-through design with air-suspended driver and passenger seats and a retractable 2,320 mm by 600 mm bed as standard. Outriggers can be set by radio control.
