UNIC URW-706 Sets Twelve Storage Tanks in Six Hours in RAK

Height restrictions and long radii

Tekzone Industrial Construction contracted Spider Plus for the tank installation at the busy industrial site. The lift plan had to work around height restrictions, a confined working area and radii that were beyond what the contractor’s standard equipment could reach, which is an uncomfortable combination for any crane selection.

The URW-706 was chosen for the balance it strikes: a lifting capacity of up to 6 tonnes from a machine compact enough to set up in tight positions, with enough reach to cover the tank locations from the standing positions available.

Twelve tanks, two sizes

The scope split into two groups. Eight tanks weighed 600kg each and measured 4m high by 2m wide; the remaining four were larger vessels of 900kg, standing 6m high and 2m wide.

None of the individual weights troubled the crane, but the method did. Each tank had to be lifted, held in mid-air while load cells were fitted underneath, and then lowered into its exact designated position. Holding a 6m-tall vessel steady on the hook while another team works beneath it is a test of both the machine’s stability and the operator’s control.

Six hours from first pick to last

The full sequence of twelve tanks was completed within six hours, which Spider Plus attributed to the operator’s handling and the crane’s reliability. Tekzone reported itself satisfied with the efficiency and accuracy of the process.

Spider Plus credited the combination of a compact machine and long reach for making a single-crane solution viable: the alternative on a site with those radii would have been a larger unit that could not have been positioned close enough to be useful.

Industrial installation work of this kind — plant and vessels being set inside or alongside operating facilities, with load cells, anchor bolts or grouting work happening under a suspended load — is a growing application for mini crawler cranes, where the ability to hold a load precisely for an extended period matters more than lifting it quickly.
