XGC85 and XGC55: XCMG’s first certified pre-owned crawler cranes head for South-East Asia
XCMG has delivered a batch of certified pre-owned XGC85 and XGC55 crawler cranes to infrastructure projects in South-East Asia — its first used-equipment shipment to the region since it set up a certification programme in 2024.
What the certificate covers
The cranes had between four and seven years of service behind them before being taken through XCMG’s refurbishment route. That covers inspection and maintenance of the load-bearing and wear items — booms, pins, cylinders and cab interiors — with parts replaced where needed, followed by testing and recalibration of the hydraulic system and of the travel and slewing functions. The machines were then deep cleaned and repainted.
XCMG’s stated expectation is another five to seven years of efficient operation, provided the cranes are maintained to its own guidelines. That caveat matters: on the used market the maintenance regime after sale usually determines residual life more than the refurbishment itself.
The two models
The XGC85 is offered on the strength of its hydraulic components for stability in high-load, continuous work, a fast-release drum with disc brake, one-touch switching between main and auxiliary hook, a dual-mode operating interface and 850 mm track shoes for stability on soft ground.
The smaller XGC55 is built around transport economics: an integrated transport design intended to cut haulage and assembly costs, a self-erecting A-frame that speeds rig-up, a consolidated hydraulic system with fewer failure points and better access for maintenance, and modular componentry aimed at lowering procurement and spares costs. It too switches between main and auxiliary hook without a rebuild.
Why it matters for the region
Second-hand crawler cranes in the 55 to 85 tonne band do most of the routine piling, precast and steelwork lifting on South-East Asian infrastructure sites, and buyers there have historically had little more than a visual inspection and an hour meter to go on. A manufacturer-backed inspection record changes the risk profile of that purchase, and it also gives finance houses something to lend against.
A used-equipment channel
The delivery is the first under XCMG’s Used Equipment Certification programme in South-East Asia. The scheme is intended to extend machine life by putting a documented quality standard behind second-hand stock, an approach European crane manufacturers have run for years and which is only now becoming common among Chinese builders.
XCMG has set a target of selling 70 certified pre-owned units during 2025.
