Ten kilometres from the factory: Stützle-Späth enters the crane business with an LICCON3 LTM 1110-5.2
A rental company known for access platforms, forklifts and loader cranes has bought its first mobile crane – one of the first 110-tonne Liebherrs with the LICCON3 control system, new cabs and new paintwork.
A new line of business
Stützle-Späth GmbH & Co KG of Schelklingen in Upper Swabia has taken delivery of an LTM 1110-5.2, the first mobile crane in a rental fleet otherwise made up of dozens of access platforms, forklifts and loader cranes. The company, which also works in traffic safety and mobile road construction, marked its 50th anniversary last year and employs around 65 people.

Among the first with LICCON3
The machine is one of the first Liebherr 110-tonne cranes delivered with the LICCON3 crane control system, which arrives alongside redesigned cabs and a new paint scheme. Beyond the control system, the five-axle crane offers a 60-metre telescopic boom, a hydraulically adjustable double folding jib, a telescopic boom extension and VarioBase Plus, the variable support base that raises lifting capacities. Auto-Ballast handles ballasting automatically at the touch of a button, and the DynamicPerform clutch module on the ZF TraXon transmission allows wear-free manoeuvring.
Under ten tonnes per axle
For a first crane in a fleet used to fast, permit-free deployment, road mobility matters as much as the load chart. The lightweight design of the LTM 1110-5.2 combined with the ballast quick-change system brings axle loads below ten tonnes in a short time.

Geography played a part too. The company sits roughly ten kilometres from Liebherr’s mobile crane production site, which puts service and spare parts within easy reach. For the managing director the purchase has a personal dimension as well: he served his apprenticeship at Liebherr, and describes buying a crane from his former training company as a special feeling.
