Two high-capacity Grove all-terrains join Davies Crane Hire’s Welsh fleet
Carmarthen-based Davies Crane Hire has expanded its Heavy Cranes Division with two Grove all-terrain cranes, a 300-tonne GMK6300L-1 and a 250-tonne GMK5250XL-1, and both machines have already completed their first jobs in the UK.
The Welsh rental company chose the two cranes for their lifting capacity and long reach, and both went straight to work after delivery. The five-axle GMK5250XL-1 helped dismantle a harbour crane, while the six-axle GMK6300L-1 handled machinery moves inside a factory.
Long boom on six axles
The GMK6300L-1 carries an 80 m main boom, which can be extended to a maximum system length of 120 m, giving the 300-tonner strong load charts across a wide range of applications. Manitowoc points to fast rigging, including counterweight installation, and a relatively compact carrier that helps the crane reach confined jobsites.
The GMK5250XL-1 pairs a 78.5 m main boom with a tip height of up to 109 m when the jib and extensions are fitted. The five-axle crane uses Grove’s single-engine concept, which the manufacturer says cuts fuel consumption by up to 30% compared with earlier twin-engine models, lowering both emissions and operating costs.
