Grove GMK4100L-2 places prefab home extension in a single day

Family-owned Mick Volendam Groep, based in Volendam near Amsterdam, delivered the prefabricated unit to the site itself before rigging the 100-tonne all-terrain crane for the lift. The job called for the extension to travel over the roof of the existing house before being set down for final installation at the rear.

Operator Johan Jonk set the GMK4100L-2 up with 9.2 tonnes of counterweight and telescoped 45.8 m of the crane’s 60 m main boom to place the 5.3-tonne module at an 18 m radius. According to Manitowoc, the crane’s CCS crane control system helped keep the lift quick and precise, with no disruption to neighbouring residents in the tight residential streets.

Taxi crane credentials

The GMK4100L-2 is Grove’s 100-tonne class four-axle all terrain, built in Wilhelmshaven with a 60 m TWIN-LOCK MEGAFORM boom and MEGATRAK independent suspension. At 2.55 m wide it is aimed squarely at urban work, and in taxi configuration it travels with 6.8 t of counterweight on board; the remainder needed for full capacity fits on a single standard trailer. The latest engine generation can run on 100 per cent HVO fuel.

For time-critical jobs such as this one, Mick Volendam Groep relies on Manitowoc’s aftermarket team at its Breda facility for parts, service and maintenance support.
