Grúas Aguilar signs for 15 new Liebherr cranes, topped by an 800-tonne LR 1800-1.0 crawler
Spanish crane rental company Grúas Aguilar has ordered 15 new Liebherr machines, headed by an LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane and the first LTM 1400-6.1 mobile crane for Spain, with deliveries running through to early 2027.
The Madrid-based company, which also operates from Barcelona, Mallorca and Tarragona, is renewing and enlarging its fleet in one sweep. Alongside the 800-tonne LR 1800-1.0 and the 450-tonne LTM 1400-6.1, the order takes in an LTM 1300-6.4 with its 90-metre telescopic boom and LICCON3 control system, several LTM 1060-3.1, LTM 1090-4.3 and LTM 1100-5.3 mobile cranes, and an MK 140-5.1E mobile construction crane. The first units are already on Spanish soil; the remainder will arrive in stages until the first quarter of 2027.
Crawler flagship straight to work
The LR 1800-1.0 becomes the most powerful crane in the Grúas Aguilar fleet. Liebherr positions the 800-tonner as an industrial crane for luffing-jib and derrick work in plants, power station construction and petrochemical sites, and it is equally at home erecting wind turbines and on wind farm maintenance.
The machine wasted no time earning its keep. Its first job took it to a major infrastructure site in the Spanish capital, where it helped assemble the ‘Mayrit’ tunnel boring machine for the extension of Madrid Metro Line 11.
Ninety per cent Liebherr
The order continues a relationship that goes back to the founding of Liebherr Ibérica in 1988, and the numbers show how close it has become.
“Liebherr, and in particular Liebherr Ibérica – our direct local contact – are far more than just a supplier to us. A partnership based on trust has developed over many years. Today, almost 90 per cent of our mobile and crawler crane fleet comes from Liebherr. The decisive factors here are the reliability of the machines, the high quality of service and the continuous technological development of the products.”
— Luis Aguilar, owner, Aguilar Group
The LTM 1400-6.1 in the package is the first of the type to be delivered in Spain, a marker of how quickly the six-axle 450-tonner is spreading through European fleets.
“Grúas Aguilar’s confidence in our products and services is a special tribute to our decades-long collaboration. Together, we have built a partnership characterised by reliability, commitment and a shared vision. We look forward to continuing to support Grúas Aguilar in modernising its fleet and successfully implementing challenging projects.”
— Tobias Böhler, Managing Director, Liebherr Ibérica
