Grove maintenance tools target mobile crane uptime

Manitowoc puts Grove maintenance tools at the centre of mobile crane uptime

Manitowoc is highlighting a family of Grove maintenance products aimed at keeping mobile cranes working, from boom lubrication kits and a hydraulic pressure test set to a redesigned Wire Rope Cleaner that now fits ropes on any crane brand.

According to the manufacturer, fleet owners need predictability as much as performance, and consistent maintenance depends on technicians having the right tools across crews, projects and cranes. The company points to boom lubrication, hydraulic pressure and wire rope condition as three areas where dedicated equipment can make a measurable difference to uptime.

Boom lubrication without the guesswork

Poor lubrication is a common cause of declining boom performance on telescopic cranes. Sections working under high load and friction move unevenly when grease is applied inconsistently, and unmanaged wear can lead to boom slip, accelerated pad wear and, in the worst cases, a boom that will not telescope at all.

Grove offers two products for the job. The Boom Grease Spray Set delivers a fine mist of high-density grease through a pressure system that balances grease and air. The Boom Lubrication Kit pairs a pneumatic pump with a variable-pressure spray gun and a long-reach lance that reaches inside the boom through the TWIN-LOCK pinning holes. Both come with Manitowoc-approved high-density grease formulated to protect against corrosion and wear while preventing boom slip.

Measuring hydraulic pressure, not guessing it

A mobile crane’s hydraulic system relies on precise pressure levels for lifting force and smooth boom extension and retraction. Falling pressure shows up as slower or erratic boom movement and reduced load control, but Manitowoc stresses that hydraulic performance cannot be judged by feel. The Grove DIN Hydraulic Pressure Test Kit gives technicians fast pressure readings on both low- and high-pressure lifting cycles. The all-in-one kit is designed for service trucks and on-site diagnosis, so pressure deviations can be caught before they sideline the crane.

A wider-ranging Wire Rope Cleaner

Dirt trapped between rope strands accelerates wear and corrosion, stiffens the rope and raises the risk of fatigue failure, which for owners means more frequent inspections and earlier replacement. Grove’s Wire Rope Cleaner strips out debris and reapplies a rope-specific grease chosen to avoid adverse chemical reactions.

Manitowoc introduced the tool in 2025 and has updated it for 2026: the redesign accepts ropes from 12 mm to 38 mm (0.5 in to 1.5 in) in diameter, on any crane brand and with any rope lay, allowing mixed fleets to standardise rope care on a single tool.

The products are portable and jobsite-ready, and Manitowoc says they are available through its dealer network.
