If It Works, Buy It Twice: Kran Völkl Doubles Up on the Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3
Bavarian crane and transport company Kran Völkl has added a second Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 to its fleet — identical in specification to the first, because the first one simply delivered.
Nine tonnes of ballast, no escort vehicle
The appeal of the 150-tonne crane is easy to sum up: with twelve-tonne axle loads it carries nine tonnes of counterweight on public roads, which means many jobs can be done without a separate ballast transport. Völkl uses its LTM 1150-5.3 for construction sites, industrial work, precast assembly and recovery operations.

Specced to the limit
Both cranes carry a hydraulic double-folding jib, a second hoist with mounting jib, radio remote control, a boom camera and a ten-light LED package. The aluminium rims were a deliberate choice: even with nine tonnes of ballast, a second hoist and a three-roller hook block on board, about 400 kilograms of headroom remain within the 60-tonne maximum gross weight.
Steady renewal
Founded in 1932 and employing around 30 people, the family firm from Straubing runs 13 cranes — many of them Liebherr — and replaces its vehicles roughly every eight years. Four new cranes have joined the fleet in the past two years alone.
