An apartment building in the Russian city of Kirov has been badly damaged after a large crane collapsed and fell onto it.
When the wind blew, I saw the crane running on rails about 100 meters in the direction of the house. As soon as it bumped into the stop, it fell down onto the 9-story house,” a witness said.
The crane was being used for nearby building works when it fell into the nine-storey apartment block, which is home to around 250 people. Balconies were damaged, as were several cars which were parked outside the building, but no casualties were reported.Olga Bykova, who filmed the moment of collapse from the window of a nearby flat, said she was “shocked” by what she saw.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be identified, though it is believed that the crane was likely improperly secured, the local Emergency Ministry told Interfax news agency. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
