Fagioli hands the global chief executive role to Fernando Bertoni
The board of Fagioli S.p.A. has appointed Fernando Bertoni as global chief executive of the heavy lifting and specialised transport group, with a brief to accelerate growth in the company’s core markets.
The appointment
Fagioli’s board of directors confirmed Bertoni as new global CEO of the group in February 2024. The company said he would lead Fagioli with the aim of accelerating growth in its key underlying markets, building on its customer positioning, technical capabilities and international presence.
“As we continue to invest and support the growth of the Company, today we are pleased to announce the appointment of Fernando Bertoni as our new, global CEO for the Fagioli Group. Fernando brings over 30 years of global operating experience and a unique track-record, which will be critical to lead the Company to the next stage of growth and excellence”.
— Rocco Sabelli, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Fagioli
Background outside the lifting sector
Bertoni arrives from the engineering and energy industries rather than from within heavy lift. He was previously chairman and chief executive of UTIL Group, a global supplier to the automotive and other industrial segments, and held the same role at COROB Group, a technology company in tinting solutions. Before that he spent more than 18 years with General Electric in Italy, Europe and Brazil, rising to chief executive of GE Environmental Control Solutions.
Continuity on the technical side
In his own comments, Bertoni put the emphasis on maintaining the technical service that Fagioli’s client base buys.
“I am extremely excited about this unique opportunity, and thankful to QuattroR and the Fagioli family for their trust and support. Together with the Board of Directors and Fagioli’s senior leadership team, we will work together as one solid team to continue to provide first class technical support and solving our customers’ most challenging logistic issues around the world.”
— Fernando Bertoni, Global CEO, Fagioli Group
The appointment of a chief executive from outside the lifting sector is not unusual in a group of this size, where the technical leadership sits with the engineering department and the chief executive’s task is commercial direction and international expansion.
The reference to QuattroR points to the Italian investment fund that has backed Fagioli alongside the founding family.
