Potain widens tower crane accessory range from bracing to security

Bracing, lighting, anti-climb kits and more: Potain builds out its tower crane accessory catalogue

Manitowoc has set out the accessory and aftermarket range behind its Potain tower cranes, spanning engineered steel bracing, high-output jobsite lighting, anti-intrusion mast kits, tool-tethering equipment, the ProTECHtor maintenance system and even self-contained operator urinals.

A total solution for tying in the crane

Beyond the cranes themselves, Manitowoc says a broad accessory catalogue is central to how Potain supports tower crane owners through a machine’s working life. One of the less visible services is the design and supply of steel bracing to tie a crane into the structure it is building. Potain handles the full scope, from design and planning through to manufacturing and installing modular, reusable frames and beams matched to the individual project and crane.

For jobsite efficiency the manufacturer offers ultra-high-powered lighting packages that mount on the mast or jib. Each unit delivers 300 W and 48,000 lumens, runs on 230 V or 400 V supply and comes with waterproof sockets, with quick assembly and disassembly. The packages are sold standalone or as installed solutions with Potain handling wiring and fitting.

Keeping urban explorers off the mast

Potain has also introduced anti-intrusion kits to counter trespassers climbing tower cranes on unattended sites. The lightweight steel panels with anti-drilling padlocks suit K400, K600, K800 and K850 mast sections, including masts fitted with the Cab-IN operator elevator, and can double as plate carrier markers.

Technicians get attention too. Through a partnership with drop-prevention specialist GRIPPS, the global Potain dealer network sells grapples, wristbands, tethers, grippers and tool catchers for work at height. The ProTECHtor system meanwhile lets a technician take control of the crane during maintenance, stopping crane movements or remotely authorising them at pre-set speeds, with an emergency stop. It works on top-slewing and self-erecting cranes with or without the Crane Control System (CCS), either as a portable unit or built into new cranes.

Operator comfort, right down to the basics

At the practical end of the range, Potain now offers autonomous urinals mounted next to the cab. The chemical-free units need no water or drainage, are described as odourless and self-cleaning, weigh 15 kg and need only a 230 V socket.

“The fundamentals of construction success are always tied to the performance and reliability of the tower crane. But having the right tools, training, and support to back up the tower crane can make a substantial difference. That’s why Potain’s customer support is focused on all aspects of crane ownership, maintenance, and operation. When a crane performs to the best of its ability, the whole project benefits,” said Jérôme Chanel, VP Sales & Aftermarket, Potain Europe.
