Built with Liebherr: Tower Cranes Shape the New Miami Skyline

A city growing upwards

Across Brickell, Edgewater, Park West and the Miami Worldcenter district, a wave of residential and mixed-use towers is redrawing the city’s silhouette. The cranes on those sites come through Morrow Equipment Company, Liebherr’s exclusive tower crane distributor for the US, Canada and Mexico for more than four decades. In 2022 Morrow ordered 27 additional Liebherr cranes — including 340 EC-B and 470 EC-B flat-tops and 357 HC-L luffers — and models from that fleet are now regulars on Greater Miami sites.

Built for Florida conditions

The crane selection reflects the local reality: tight urban plots, hook heights up to roughly 230 metres, seasonal hurricane exposure and relentless humidity. EC-B flat-tops, with their compact tower heads, let several cranes slew in close proximity; EC-H high-tops add capacity for the heaviest structures; and HC-L luffing jib cranes step in where space at altitude is scarce and minimal out-of-service radii are essential.

Seven projects, one lifting partner

Among the showcase jobs is Villa Miami in Edgewater, a 56-storey copper-clad condominium tower where two 316 EC-H cranes were registered at approximately 230 and 218 metres above ground — the first installed in April 2025, both now flanking the core as the structure climbs past the 37th floor. Together, the seven projects represent several thousand new homes and a significant share of the towers currently rising in the city.
