Hiab closes its western US gap with a Custom Truck One Source dealer deal
Hiab has appointed Custom Truck One Source to sell and service HIAB loader cranes in twelve US states, filling in the western coverage the manufacturer has been chasing for years and adding the New York market.
Twelve states for loader cranes
The agreement covers HIAB loader crane sales and service in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New York. A separate part of the deal gives Custom Truck responsibility for MOFFETT truck-mounted forklifts in eight states across the north east, including New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, Connecticut and parts of Pennsylvania.
For a loader crane manufacturer, the west has long been the awkward part of the US map: distances are long, and support has to be local to be worth anything. Custom Truck runs more than 40 locations in North America, a rental fleet of over 10,400 units and a round-the-clock service call centre, and offers in-house financing.
Close to full US coverage
Hiab frames the deal as the point at which its US loader crane network becomes close to complete.
“Partnering with Custom Truck is a major milestone for us getting close to full coverage of the US market for HIAB loader cranes. This agreement secures the extensive coverage in the crucial West region of the US that has been a long-standing strategic priority for Hiab, while also reinforcing our presence in the high-volume New York market.”
– Pauliina Kunvik, Senior Vice President Sales and Services, North America, Hiab
A portfolio addition for the dealer
From the dealer’s side the attraction is a product line it can put alongside the aerial devices, boom trucks and vocational chassis it already supplies to utility, telecoms and rail customers.
“We are delighted to partner with a global leader like Hiab. Their commitment to innovation and quality mirrors our own focus on providing complete and reliable solutions to our customers. This portfolio expansion will allow us to better serve the growing demand for smart, high-performance loader cranes across our extensive operational footprint.”
– Ryan McMonagle, Chief Executive Officer, Custom Truck One Source
The appointment follows a run of North American distribution moves by Hiab, which has been rebuilding its dealer map since becoming a standalone listed company on Nasdaq Helsinki. Custom Truck’s coast-to-coast rental fleet already includes aerial devices and boom trucks, so the HIAB range slots into a sales channel that is used to specifying equipment onto a chassis rather than selling it over the counter.
Hiab operates through roughly 3,000 own and partner sales and service points worldwide and delivers to more than 100 countries. Its continuing operations recorded sales of around EUR 1.6 billion in 2024.
