One series instead of two: the DHR brings CAN bus control and synthetic rope to standard crane duty
Demag has introduced the DHR rope hoist, a new range that consolidates features from its DMR and DVR series into a single compact hoist for standard crane applications. It was unveiled at LogiMAT 2024.
A tighter package
The crane-optimised EK-DHR version is built on a weight-optimised tube structure and offers an improved C-dimension over its predecessor — the practical consequence being more usable hook coverage in the same bay. A thrust rocker does away with the counterweight that a comparable hoist would otherwise need.
Demag also lists low service requirements among the design targets: the motor and gearbox are accessible and the rope drum bearing requires no lubrication. As an alternative to steel wire, the DHR can run Dyneema synthetic rope with roughly 85 per cent of the deadweight and no wear on the drum or guide rollers.
Drives
Four motor solutions are available. The entry point is a two-stage hoist motor with a 6:1 ratio; at the top, inverter-controlled motors deliver load-dependent speeds up to factor three through the Demag ProHub function. Cross-travel comes with the Demag DualDrive as standard, driving two wheels from a single belt, with an optional second motor depending on size for demanding conditions.
Control and safety
The clearest break with the earlier DVR range is the control and safety technology. Crane components communicate over an optional CAN bus, which allows safety-relevant parameters to be monitored automatically. Users can then select from a set of smart features — Sway Control, Tandem Operation, Bypass Controls and Hook Centring — to configure a standard hoist for demanding handling tasks.
Monitoring is handled by the web-based StatusControl 2.0 tool, with the Demag Equipment App presenting live hoist and crane data on a mobile device. Trained users can adjust DHR parameters from the app, and the wireless link supports over-the-air software updates for cranes already installed. The hook block has an ergonomically shaped guide handle and protective covers.
Sizes and options
The DHR launched as a crane-optimised monorail hoist in three sizes with capacities to 10 tonnes, alongside a basic hoist for general mechanical engineering rated to 2.5 tonnes. Further versions were flagged to follow. Option lists include a second hoist brake, a second cross-travel motor, a rain canopy, an IP 66 enclosure, radio control with the load shown on the status display, and standby heaters.
