“More than lifting”: Demag rebuilds its heavy-duty DH programme around a new size and packaged options
Demag has relaunched its DH hoist unit programme, adding a size 400 for lighter loads, making infinitely variable positioning a standard option and bundling accessories into eight packages for defined operating conditions.
A hoist that works outside crane duty
The DH is the robust end of the Demag hoist range, and much of its installed base sits outside conventional crane applications. The units are built around a torsionally rigid frame, offer hook paths of more than 100 metres and a wide choice of mounting arrangements. Demag cites electroplating plants, infrastructure projects and horizontal movements in architecture — where DH units have drawn roof structures weighing several tonnes into place — among the reference applications.

Four sizes, four designs
The new size 400 covers capacities from one tonne upwards and joins the existing 600, 1000 and 2000. All four are available as a compact foot-mounted hoist, as a standard-headroom monorail hoist, in curved design, as a short trolley with optimised hook path and as a double-rail crab. Across the programme, load capacities reach 100 tonnes.
Drives and monitoring
The conical-rotor motors developed and built at Demag’s Uslar plant remain, offered as pole-changing motors with creep lifting at 1:6 and 1:10 ratios or as infinitely variable drives. New to the standard specification are temperature monitoring and a DGS 4 limit switch with four switching points, integrated into the electrical housing and driven directly from the drum.
Speed-controlled versions can use the ZBA cylindrical-rotor motor, also built in Germany, which suits closed-loop control with encoder feedback. It carries a separately controllable brake with release control and brake adjustment monitoring, and can take an integrated pulse generator.
Eight packages for harsh conditions
The most practical change for specifiers is the packaging of options. Demag has combined sixteen performance features into eight equipment packages covering high humidity, arctic and tropical climates and corrosive atmospheres such as those found in galvanising plants, matching hoist, motor and coating to the application profile. Further additions to the rope hoist system and control technology were flagged for 2024.
