Back at its birthplace: Haslach’s LTM 1230-5.1 erects concrete columns within sight of the Liebherr factory in Ehingen
Crane contractor Haslach GmbH from Wertach in the Allgäu has used its Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 to erect three precast concrete columns, each weighing 20 tonnes, for a potato storage hall in Ehingen-Berg — with the crane’s own factory visible from the jobsite.
The columns play a key role in the stability of the new warehouse, and on paper a smaller crane would have handled the lifts. The family-run company nevertheless deliberately sent its five-axle 230-tonner — because the LTM 1230-5.1 could do the job without any counterweight, and therefore without a separate transport vehicle.
No ballast, no extra truck
Haslach was commissioned for the hoists by construction firm Dobler GmbH & Co. KG of Kaufbeuren, which also operates the precast plant from which the heavy components were trucked to Ehingen-Berg. The two companies have worked together for many years.
“With a smaller crane, ballast plates would have had to be transported to the construction site in a separate vehicle. The LTM 1230-5.1 was able to carry out the operation without ballast thanks to its stable telescopic boom. This meant we could save on an additional vehicle and a driver.”
— Tobias Haslach, Managing Director, Haslach GmbH
The LTM 1230-5.1 carries a 75-metre telescopic boom, one of the longest in its class, and reaches a maximum hook height of 111 metres with lattice extensions. That makes the 230-tonner equally at home erecting heavy precast elements, assembling tower cranes or carrying out maintenance work on wind turbines.
Crane technology in plain sight
The location added a twist: the site sits in the immediate vicinity of Liebherr’s mobile crane plant in Ehingen and the Liebherr Service Branch South, and both were visible from where the crane was working. Around five years after leaving its ‘birthplace’ for the Allgäu, the LTM 1230-5.1 was back demonstrating its capabilities within sight of the factory gates.
Nine Liebherr cranes in the fleet
Haslach offers crane solutions with capacities from 10 to 300 tonnes, covering precast concrete work, timber structures and photovoltaic projects, with site inspections and technical planning as part of the service. Founded in 1977 and now run by second-generation brothers Tobias and Roland Haslach, the company marks its 50th anniversary next year. Its fleet comprises nine mobile cranes — all of them Liebherr.
