JONSERED iZ.18R HD recycling crane enters the 18 tm class

Built for continuous duty

A recycling crane leads a harder life than a delivery crane. It works most of the shift, handles awkward and abrasive loads, and is judged on how long the structure and the hydraulics last rather than on peak lift charts. The iZ.18R HD is classified S3, and Hiab specifies it as designed to withstand a minimum of eight-hour working cycles.

The crane is offered with reaches from 8.6 metres to 10 metres, with boom lengths of 8.6, 9.0 and 10.0 metres available at launch. It runs the SPACEevo control system, matched to the Olsbergs Q200 valve, with new hydraulics, sensors and cabling specified for high-frequency use.

A market first at the control station

The more interesting change is at the operator’s position. Control stations are available with mechanical steering (2+2), radio remote control, or electric joysticks that Hiab describes as a market first because they are fully weatherproof and need no protective cover. Combined with the Q200 main valve and the high seat, those joysticks run every crane function and the stabilisers.

Anyone who has watched an operator peel a rain cover off a control box in a scrapyard in February will understand the appeal.

Seating options staggered

Configurations cover high seat, side seat on either the left or the right, platform and cabin. At launch only the centrally positioned high seat and the side seat options are available; the platform and cabin versions follow later.

The crane is CE marked, and ProCare service contracts covering preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections can be bought alongside it, with the most extensive package, ProCare Total R&M, also covering repairs. Plan availability varies by market.

Hiab also offers its HiConnect telematics package on the range, giving fleet owners condition data from the crane rather than relying on the operator to report a developing fault – useful on machines that are worked hard every day and where an unplanned stop takes a collection round out of service.

For JONSERED, the model fills a gap between the brand’s smaller recycling cranes and its heavier machines, and it shares its control architecture with Hiab’s current loader crane generation – which should simplify life for mixed fleets and for the workshops that maintain them.
