KönningKrane fills fleet gap with new Liebherr LTM 1150-5.4

The five-axle crane is the third Liebherr the Stadtlohn-based company has added in as many years, following an LTM 1160-5.2 and an LTC 1050-3.1. The fleet currently stands at around 20 units, and alongside crane hire the Münsterland firm also runs concrete pumps and transport services.

Technology tipped the decision

According to the company, the crane’s technology package was central to the purchase: VarioBase variable outrigger support, AutoBallast and Liebherr’s new LICCON3 control system, backed by a 66-metre telescopic boom. At a 60-tonne gross weight on 12-tonne axle loads, the crane travels with 9 tonnes of ballast on board.

The cab and carrier come with a long list of convenience and safety kit, including a multifunction steering wheel, an integrated cool box, a full LED lighting package, front-view and reversing cameras, and driver assistance systems such as the BSIS blind spot and turning assistant and the MOIS collision information system.

Straight to work

The LTM 1150-5.4 was pressed into service immediately after handover, loading a 37.5-tonne machine in a confined working area. KönningKrane expects the crane to work chiefly on infrastructure and concrete construction jobs beyond its regular day-to-day lifting.

Proximity to Liebherr’s Oberhausen branch was a further argument for the Westphalian company, keeping maintenance and spare parts close at hand. The second-generation management team says it deliberately invests in current technology, both to work more efficiently and to make operator jobs more attractive.
