LEONHARD WEISS orders eight Liebherr tower cranes through Nagel

Four flat-tops and four 91K fast-erectors: LEONHARD WEISS places an eight-crane order with Liebherr

German contractor LEONHARD WEISS has ordered eight Liebherr tower cranes through distributor Nagel Baumaschinen Ulm: two 370 EC-B 16 Fibre, two 240 EC-B 10 Fibre and four 91K fast-erecting cranes with the latest assistance systems.

The eight-crane package splits into two halves. Four flat-top cranes — two 370 EC-B 16 Fibre and two 240 EC-B 10 Fibre — take the contractor into the 370 metre-tonne class and bring Liebherr’s updated Fibre rope into its fleet. Four 91K fast-erecting cranes from the current K series make up the rest, specified with Liebherr’s latest assistance systems for semi-automated operation.

The Fibre rope update

Liebherr’s Fibre rope is the substantive technical content of the order. In place of steel wire, the hoist rope is made from high-modulus synthetic fibre, which is lighter and allows a lifting capacity increase of up to 20 per cent on the same crane. The generation shown at Bauma 2025 adds a longer service life and the option of shortening the rope where it is damaged rather than replacing the whole length — a maintenance and availability argument as much as a performance one.

Assistance systems on the fast-erectors

The four 91K cranes come from Liebherr’s current K series and are specified with the manufacturer’s latest assistance systems, which Liebherr describes as enabling precise, semi-automated and safe operation on site. On a fast-erecting crane that matters disproportionately: the machines are set up and struck frequently, often by small crews, and the erection sequence is where most of the risk and most of the lost time sit.

A three-way relationship

The order was placed through Nagel Baumaschinen Ulm GmbH, a long-standing Liebherr distribution partner, and forms part of a larger investment by LEONHARD WEISS that also covers Liebherr earthmoving equipment — 41 rail-road excavators, 35 wheeled excavators, 20 crawler excavators and a crawler loader.

For the tower crane side, the notable point is the mix: a contractor buying flat-tops and fast-erectors in the same order is equipping for two quite different classes of site, with the 91K covering housing and smaller structures and the EC-B pair going onto larger civil and building work. Liebherr, Nagel and LEONHARD WEISS have worked together for decades, and both the distributor and the contractor present the order as a continuation of that arrangement rather than a change of supplier.
