A 1,375-ton crawler with a 736 ft hook height heads to North America’s biggest rental fleet
Maxim Crane Works has signed for the first Tadano CC 78.1250-1, the 1,250-tonne lattice boom crawler crane that made its global debut at bauma 2025. The order was placed on the Tadano stand the same week.
First unit out of the gate
Maxim Crane Works, one of the largest crane rental companies in North America, has placed the order for the very first Tadano CC 78.1250-1. The model was unveiled at bauma 2025 and Maxim secured the opening unit at the show itself, with the signing ceremony held on the Tadano stand on Tuesday 8 April.
The CC 78.1250-1 is the new-generation successor to the CC 68.1250-1, rated at 1,375 US tons (1,250 tonnes). Tadano’s claims for it centre on three areas: lifting performance, transportability and operating efficiency — the same triangle that decides whether a crane of this size earns money between jobs as well as on them.
Reach and ground bearing
The headline figure is a maximum hook height of 736 ft (224.5 m) with a 49 ft (15 m) fixed jib fitted. In that configuration the crane will lift 154 US tons (140 tonnes). The base structure has been widened to 11.5 ft (3.5 m), and two crawler shoe widths are offered — 6.6 ft (2.0 m) and 7.9 ft (2.4 m) — to trade ground pressure against transport width.
Tadano positions the crane at wind energy, infrastructure and industrial work. Hook height at that order of magnitude is largely a wind-turbine number: nacelle and blade installation on current onshore towers is what pushes crawler cranes past the 200 m mark.

Maxim runs one of the largest and most varied lifting fleets in North America, and a first-build unit of a new heavy crawler is a calculated bet: early availability in a market where 1,000-tonne-plus capacity is scarce, against being the first operator to work through a new machine’s teething.
