First Grove for Meijmat: GMK5120L joins Dutch rental fleet for crawler crane assembly work
Dutch rental company Meijmat has taken delivery of its first Grove crane, a GMK5120L all-terrain, which will spend much of its working life assembling and dismantling crawler cranes alongside general construction lifts across the Netherlands.
The five-axle machine is the first Grove in the 15-crane fleet of Meijmat, which is headquartered in Alphen aan den Rijn. The company describes the purchase as a deliberate step in an ongoing modernisation programme rather than a one-off addition.
Taxi crane for assembly duties
Meijmat plans to deploy the GMK5120L primarily on the assembly and dismantling of crawler cranes, a job that rewards short set-up times and strong load charts at radius. The crane will also support building and construction projects where long reach and easy transport between sites count.
Those requirements steered the company towards the lightest crane in Grove’s five-axle range. The 120-tonne GMK5120L carries a 66 m main boom and can be configured for 10, 12 or 16.5 tonnes per axle, letting operators match counterweight to local road rules and still arrive on site with useful capacity in taxi configuration.
Service from Breda tipped the balance
Alongside the load charts, Meijmat pointed to the support it received from Manitowoc’s service operation in Breda as a decisive factor.
“The GMK5120L fits our requirements perfectly. It combines strong performance with flexibility and efficiency. We have been particularly impressed with the excellent support we’ve received from the Manitowoc service team in Breda and the capabilities of the Grove CONNECT telematics system,” said Willem van der Meijden, director at Meijmat.
The company’s operators also reported good experiences with Manitowoc’s customer support during the introduction of the crane, citing fast response times and practical, solution-oriented help.
Telematics switched on from day one
Meijmat has activated the Grove CONNECT telematics platform on the new crane. The system gives the rental company remote access to crane data, supports technical assistance on site and helps plan service and maintenance — functionality that Meijmat says played a genuine part in the investment decision.
The GMK5120L is built at Grove’s all-terrain crane factory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
