Krakow’s Piomar puts the first new-build Liebherr mobile construction crane into service in Poland
Polish lifting contractor Piomar has collected an MK 88-4.1 from Biberach, the first new machine from Liebherr’s MK series to enter service in Poland. Its first job is fitting roof panels at a logistics centre.
A first for the Polish market
Piomar sp. z o.o. of Krakow has become the first Polish operator of a new-build Liebherr mobile construction crane. Managing director Łukasz Fuksa travelled to Biberach an der Riß in person to collect the MK 88-4.1, which joins a fleet already dominated by Liebherr mobile cranes from the Ehingen plant.

The crane went straight onto a logistics centre where roof panels are being fitted — a typical MK application, and one where the ability to luff the jib and work tight against a structure counts for more than headline capacity.
Working close to the building
Roof renovation and refurbishment in dense urban settings is where Liebherr positions the MK series. The compact carrier and the luffed jib positions let the crane stand close to a façade and use the full length of the jib rather than wasting reach on standoff distance. Where a road closure is unavoidable, the MK can be set up with half-sided support depending on the load case, cutting the footprint and the area that has to be fenced off.
Power comes from a hybrid arrangement: an on-board diesel generator for self-sufficient operation, or a mains connection for zero local emissions and markedly lower noise — useful in residential districts and on sites working at night.
One person, a few minutes
The MK 88-4.1 lifts up to eight tonnes, with 2,200 kg still available at maximum radius. Luffed positions are selectable; at 45 degrees the crane reaches a hook height of roughly 59 metres, while the maximum radius is 45 metres. A height-adjustable elevating cab gives the operator a view down onto the load, backed by the machine’s assistance systems.
Several steering programmes help squeeze the four-axle carrier into constrained sites. Transport, rigging and crane operation are all handled by a single person, and the crane unfolds at the push of a button in a few minutes without additional equipment — the basis of the taxi crane model that lets one machine cover several sites in a day.
