Seventy-five metres of telescopic boom: PT Superkrane lines up an LTM 1230-5.1 for Indonesia’s downstream projects
Indonesian heavy lift and haulage contractor PT Superkrane Mitra Utama has bought a Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1, adding a 230-tonne five-axle crane with a 75-metre telescopic boom ahead of a run of large industrial projects in 2026.
Bought against a specific job
PT Superkrane Mitra Utama Tbk, one of Indonesia’s larger heavy haulage and lifting contractors, has taken an LTM 1230-5.1 into its fleet. The company is explicit that the purchase was driven by the requirements of a particular customer project rather than by general fleet renewal, and that the crane’s steep-boom performance and hook height were what decided it.

The 230-tonne machine is intended for long-term work rather than short taxi jobs: oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation, mining and infrastructure. PT Superkrane frames that around Indonesian government policy on downstream processing, which is pushing raw materials into domestic refining and manufacturing and generating a steady stream of plant construction.
Rental, heavy lifting, logistics and construction
PT Superkrane is not a pure crane hirer. Its business spans equipment rental, heavy lifting and logistics as well as construction, which means a crane of this size is expected to earn across several parts of the group rather than sit on a single hire rate. The company describes its role as facilitating the downstream processes that turn raw materials into finished products — in practice, the plant and infrastructure work that follows an investment decision in refining or smelting.
Alongside the technical case, the company names market acceptance and residual value as factors in the investment decision — a consideration that carries weight in a rental market where a crane of this size represents a long payback. Service support was the third argument, with Tandiono Tan citing the backing from the Liebherr team as a key factor.
Fifteen years and roughly 400 cranes
PT Superkrane started in 1996 with 20 machines and now runs around 400 cranes and more than 900 staff. Its first Liebherr, an LTM 1200-5.1, arrived in 2010. The fleet today includes LR 1300, LR 1600/2 and LR 1750/2 crawler cranes together with LTM 1100-5.2, LTM 1150-5.3, LTM 1200-5.1 and LTM 1500-8.1 mobile cranes, plus a range of other all-terrain models.
The LTM 1230-5.1 slots directly into that five-axle group, where the operator already runs the 200-tonne and 150-tonne classes. Its appeal in that context is reach: the 75-metre boom is unusually long for a five-axle carrier and lets the crane take on hook heights that would otherwise require a larger, slower-to-mobilise machine.
