Twelve from Ehingen: Richter Kran und Schwerlast adds a 62-metre LTM 1100-5.3
A 62-metre telescopic boom, a nine-tonne axle load option and the new LICCON3 control: the LTM 1100-5.3 that has joined Richter Kran und Schwerlast GmbH closes one of the last gaps in an all-Liebherr fleet of twelve.
Filling the last gap in the line-up
Richter Kran und Schwerlast GmbH has put a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 into service as the twelfth mobile crane in a fleet that runs from three-axle to nine-axle machines and is sourced entirely from Ehingen. The German company, which works across Europe from Sweden to Austria on infrastructure sites and grid expansion projects, sees the five-axle unit as the machine that completes its range.

The main argument is the boom. At 62 metres the LTM 1100-5.3 carries two metres more telescopic boom than the LTM 1110-5.2, until now the strongest five-axle machine in the Liebherr programme.
Ballast that comes off for the road move
On public roads the crane can travel with up to 16.9 tonnes of ballast at a twelve-tonne axle load. Strip the ballast off and the axle load drops to nine tonnes, which keeps the machine mobile in markets with tighter road rules and simplifies permits and route approvals. Combined with a carrier width of 2.55 metres, that is what makes the crane attractive for short-notice work.

Tower crane in Leipzig, pylons near Halberstadt
The crane was working within days of handover. Its first job was the assembly of a tower crane in Leipzig, completed inside a single day. It then moved on to a site near Halberstadt, replacing electricity pylons for grid operator 50Hertz on behalf of LTB Leitungsbau GmbH. Preparatory work there had been carried out by two loader cranes and a semi-trailer truck, both from Richter’s own fleet – the company handled the project end to end.
The LTM 1100-5.3 is the second crane in the fleet to run the LICCON3 control system, and the first 100-tonne machine to do so at Richter. The operator points to the practical benefit of buying consistently from one manufacturer: standardised controls across the fleet mean crane drivers move between machines without relearning them. Richter also cites service response and parts availability as reasons for staying with the brand.
