SANY Marine to supply six STS cranes and 20 RTGs to Hapag-Lloyd’s HGT

Largest SANY Marine order yet in South America

The agreement, signed on 10 July and confirmed again in SANY’s August news round-up, covers 26 large port machines in total: six ship-to-shore container cranes for the quayside and 20 rubber-tyred gantry cranes for the container yard. SANY Marine, the group’s port machinery arm, calls it its largest single port equipment order — and its largest batch order — in the South American market to date. The terminal’s exact location and the delivery schedule have not been disclosed.

The signing ceremony brought together Dheeraj Bhatia, chief executive of HGT, and Zhou Guoyuan, chairman of SANY Marine.

Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal arm

Hanseatic Global Terminals is a young name in terminal operating: founded in 2023 and headquartered in Rotterdam, it is the wholly owned terminal business of Hapag-Lloyd, the world’s fifth-largest container line. The company runs terminals on five continents, and the new cranes are intended to help the South American facility keep pace with growing cargo volumes.

Zhou Guoyuan described the deal as another milestone in SANY Marine’s globalisation strategy, saying the company would draw on its technology and manufacturing base in port and logistics equipment to supply products and services that lift operational efficiency at customers’ terminals.

Building on recent STS momentum

The HGT contract extends a run of large container crane orders for the Chinese manufacturer, which has been pushing its quayside crane range internationally alongside its established RTG business. According to SANY, the machines specified for HGT combine efficiency, safety and sustainability features to match the operator’s evolving requirements — standard vocabulary for new-generation container handling equipment, though technical details of the cranes have not yet been released.
