Schlamann-Autokrane puts permit-free Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3 on the road with full 11-tonne ballast
Nienburg-based Schlamann-Autokrane has taken delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3, the second of four new Liebherr mobile cranes ordered this year. The 55-tonne three-axle crane drove from Ehingen to Lower Saxony without any special transport permits.
Liebherr bills the LTM 1055-3.3 as the lightest three-axle all-terrain crane on the market, and its low axle loads and overall weight are precisely why Schlamann chose it. The machine qualifies for permanent driving permits in many countries, so the crane can be dispatched at short notice instead of waiting on paperwork.
“Being able to operate without the need for permits makes it easier for us to respond quickly to our customers’ requirements.”
— Torsten Schlamann, Managing Director, Schlamann-Autokrane
Full counterweight on a ballast trailer
Schlamann ordered the crane together with a ballast trailer, allowing the LTM 1055-3.3 to travel with its complete 11-tonne counterweight and no separate support vehicle. The combination weighs just 41.8 tonnes in total, with axle loads kept below 9.5 tonnes – figures that earned the outfit a general permanent permit for the German road network.
On site, the crane lifts the entire 11-tonne counterweight onto its chassis in a single hoist to ballast the slewing platform, keeping set-up times short. The newcomer slots into the fleet’s smaller crane segment alongside a compact LTC 1050-3.1 and an LTF 1060-4.1 truck-mounted telescopic crane, and will concentrate on industrial assembly and pipeline construction work.
First LICCON3 crane in the fleet
The LTM 1055-3.3 is also Schlamann’s first crane with Liebherr’s LICCON3 control system, and the operators got their first taste of it during induction at the Ehingen factory.
“The operators were already impressed during their induction at the factory, both by the new technology and by the new cab and livery. RemoteDrive – manoeuvring the vehicle by remote control – makes life much easier for the drivers.”
— Katharina Schlamann, Schlamann-Autokrane
For road travel, the crane carries intelligent assistance systems including the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) and the Moving Off Information System (MOIS), which watch out for pedestrians and cyclists around the carrier. Schlamann says the delivery is part of a continuous modernisation of its vehicle fleet, with two more Liebherr cranes from this year’s order still to come.
