Schmidbauer orders 17 Liebherr cranes in sweeping fleet renewal

German crane and heavy-haulage group Schmidbauer has ordered 17 new Liebherr cranes, from 55-tonne taxi cranes to a 450-tonne LTM 1450-8.1, as it renews its fleet for industrial, energy and infrastructure work.

The order spans much of the Liebherr mobile crane programme: LTM all-terrain cranes with capacities from 55 to 450 tonnes, LTR telescopic crawler cranes, LTC 1050-3.1 compact cranes, telescopic truck-mounted cranes and an MK 120-5.1E mobile construction crane. The first major machine from the package, the LTM 1450-8.1, has now been handed over and will be stationed at the group’s head office in Gräfelfing near Munich; the remaining 16 units are to follow in stages across the Schmidbauer Group’s various sites.

Fleet strategy aimed at industry, energy and infrastructure

Schmidbauer says the purchase is part of a long-term fleet strategy built around modern technology, high availability and efficiency, with continuous renewal of the crane fleet. The company wants to strengthen its position in industrial, energy and infrastructure work in particular, with the new machines covering everything from complex industrial lifts and plant construction to large-scale assembly jobs. The 450-tonner extends its reach at the heavy end of that spectrum.

“The continuous renewal of our fleet is a key element in our ability to meet the high demands of our markets. With state-of-the-art crane technology, we are laying the foundations to continue supporting our customers reliably, safely and efficiently in their projects.”

A long-standing Liebherr customer

The Bavarian crane and heavy-haulage specialist points to quality, innovative technology, reliability and cost-effectiveness, along with Liebherr’s sales and service network, as the reasons for staying with the Ehingen manufacturer. “Liebherr cranes have proven themselves over many years in daily use under the most demanding conditions,” said managing director Werner Schmidbauer at the handover of the LTM 1450-8.1, which he attended together with Sophie Albrecht, member of the administrative board of Liebherr-International AG.
