In spring 2019, the SENNEBOGEN 895 E Hybrid, currently the world’s largest material handler with a total weight of up to 420 t and a reach of up to 40 m, was presented for the first time at the “bauma” trade fair in Munich. For Danubia Speicherei in Ennshafen/Austria, this “green giant” seemed to be the ideal machine, as the storage facility has to handle a handling volume of 950,000 t per year. This is why the decision was made at bauma to bring this machine to Austria.
Despite its gigantic size, the green giant works particularly efficiently, quickly and without emissions, a decisive factor in Danubia’s decision to purchase this machine. In particular, the proven “Green Hybrid” energy recovery system makes a contribution here in terms of efficiency and cost reduction, with which up to 55% of energy can be saved. The energy storage system works similar to a compressed spring. The difference is that here gas is compressed in separate compressed gas cylinders and thus energy is stored which is available for the next stroke. The subsequent stroke movement is again comparable to releasing the spring. During this process, the previously generated energy is released again.
