Sennebogen to build lattice boom crawler cranes in Saudi Arabia

Joint venture will put lattice boom crawler crane production into Dammam by 2028

Sennebogen has signed a joint venture with Saudi and Emirati partners to manufacture lattice boom crawler cranes in Dammam, an investment of SAR 220 million with the first machine due off the line in 2028.

Four partners, one plant

The National Industrial Development Center (NIDC), Pipe & Well Services Co. (PWS) – a subsidiary of the Saudi industrial group Abdel Hadi Abdullah Al-Qahtani & Sons (AHQ Group) – Sennebogen and Bersy Engineering Consultancy FZE have formed a joint venture for local production of lattice boom crawler cranes. The investment volume is SAR 220 million, around €49.5 million. The agreement was announced at the Heavy Equipment Connect (HEC) conference in Dammam.

The German-Saudi talks began in February 2025. A delegation visit during bauma 2025 produced agreement on a letter of intent, and at HEC in February 2026 the parties committed to a new production facility in Dammam. The plant will concentrate on metal processing and steel fabrication for crawler crane manufacture.

Sales partnership becomes manufacturing

For Sennebogen the venture builds on an existing relationship with PWS covering sales and service of its lattice boom crawler cranes in the Kingdom.

The project was set up in close coordination with Saudi authorities and specifically with NIDC, and fits the national strategy of bringing advanced manufacturing technology into the Kingdom. Sennebogen contributes the technology; the stated target is 50 per cent local value creation in Saudi Arabia. The company says the arrangement also creates jobs at its Bavarian operations.

The announcement was made in front of senior Saudi officials, among them H.E. Khalil Bin Salamah, vice minister of industrial affairs, with NIDC represented by Hassan Al-Shehri, Saleh Al-Solami and Khalid Al Homoud, AHQ by Tariq Abdel Hadi Al-Qahtani and Bersy Engineering Consultancy by Bakr Bersy and Nagy Nashaat. Erich, Walter and Alexander Sennebogen attended for the manufacturer alongside Michael Ibarth.

Timeline

With the announcement made, attention now moves to plant planning. Construction is scheduled to finish by the end of 2027, with the first crawler crane rolling off the Dammam line in 2028.

For crane buyers in the region the practical significance is supply. Lattice boom crawler cranes for the Saudi market are currently imported from Germany; a Dammam plant covering metal processing and steel fabrication shortens that chain for the domestic market while giving the partners a base from which to serve neighbouring countries.
