Why a telescopic crawler crane beat the all-terrains on a 7,000 m² Czech hall

A Sennebogen 683 E telescopic crawler crane is erecting the precast frame of a 7,047 m² production hall at the AVENTIN Dyje industrial park, where travelling under load removed most of the repositioning work.

Contractor IMA Construction s.r.o. is building the DY4 production hall for engineering firm SANBORN s.r.o. at the AVENTIN Dyje industrial park in the Czech Republic. The building measures 96.8 by 72.8 metres, about 7,047 m² in total, and has been under construction since November 2025. Completion, final inspection and handover are scheduled for August 2026.

The core lifting task is placing the precast concrete frame. Elements are dropped in a laydown area first, then taken from there to the installation point. Alongside conventional hook work, the 683 E carries out pick-and-carry duty, lifting and travelling with the load rather than setting down between moves.

No repositioning, no outriggers

That is the argument the site makes for a telescopic crawler over a wheeled all-terrain crane. On a large-span hall the combination of capacity, radius and boom length matters less than the number of set-ups a shift requires; being able to travel with the load under the telescopic boom cuts those set-ups out.

Ground conditions supported the choice. The site was prepared with a lime-stabilised base layer topped with a protective layer of recycled material. The crawler undercarriage spreads load over a large contact area, which kept the machine working through rain, snow and frost and allowed it to move across the whole site without the ground damage a wheeled machine would risk in the same conditions.

A week late, a week early

Despite a one-week delay at the start of construction, the frame was topped out a week ahead of the agreed programme. The contractor attributes that mainly to coordination between crane operators, erection teams and project management rather than to the machine alone.

This is IMA Construction’s first project using Sennebogen cranes. The company also praised support from Sennebogen dealer INTERMARKET, which kept a team on site through commissioning and the erection phase. “The cooperation was excellent. Support from INTERMARKET was guaranteed at all times,” the project management team confirmed.
