Used LTM 1120-4.1 becomes RISAL’s first mobile crane in Saudi Arabia

Buying young, not new

Rawabi Industrial Services (RISAL) has taken delivery of a used Liebherr LTM 1120-4.1 built in 2022 — the first mobile crane in a fleet that until now covered industrial and environmental services without a lifting arm of its own. The 120-tonne machine is the strongest four-axle all-terrain currently available and carries the longest telescopic boom in its class, which is what drew the buyer to it.

The crane had previously worked in Germany. Before it left for the Middle East, RISAL agreed a programme of minor maintenance and servicing with Saudi Liebherr Company Ltd. and the used-crane specialists at the Ehingen plant, together with adaptation to Saudi operating requirements. The company came out of that process with a machine it describes as close to new condition — an increasingly common route for buyers who want current technology without the lead time on a new build.

Loading work at a chemicals plant

The LTM 1120-4.1 is specified with Liebherr’s VarioBase variable support base and VarioBallast adjustable ballast radius, both of which help on congested industrial sites where the outriggers cannot always be run out symmetrically. RISAL will use the crane for loading and offloading at one of the world’s largest energy and chemicals companies — repetitive duty work where availability matters more than peak capacity.

RISAL employs around 1,500 people and offers a broad spread of industrial and environmental services, including a wide range of cleaning and waste disposal work. Mansy says the crane will handle loading and offloading operations in Saudi Arabia and that reliable equipment was a precondition, with the company expecting a long-term relationship with the manufacturer.

Local service cover

Liebherr serves the Saudi market from three locations — Jeddah, Dammam and Riyadh. Saudi Liebherr Company Ltd. handles spare parts supply as well as after-sales and repair work for both new and used cranes, which was a factor in RISAL’s decision to buy a second-hand machine rather than a new one.
