Hiab takes new 1622 ATF loader crane to Eurosatory 2026

A folding column built around transport limits

The crane on the stand is the HIAB 1622 ATF-3, a development of the combat-proven HIAB 2222 ATF. It is rated at 14.45 tm, reaches a maximum outreach of 8.3 m and offers a lifting capacity of 1,660 kg, with unlimited slewing.

What separates it from a civilian crane of similar size is the column, which folds. Hiab designed the crane so that a truck fitted with it still fits the loading gauge for rail movement and the height limits for air transport, and so that the crane clears a roof-mounted weapon station on the cab. Stability Control and Crane Tip Control are included to keep load handling accurate when the vehicle is working on poor ground.

Hooklift and top handler complete the line-up

Alongside the crane, Hiab is showing the MULTILIFT Talon hooklift, which allows a single operator to load and unload ISO containers and flatracks entirely from inside a protected cab. TATRA Truck will display the Talon on its latest TATRA FORCE chassis on a separate stand.

The third product is the HIAB JMIC Top Handler, an attachment for Joint Modular Intermodal Containers. Defence logistics is standardised around 20 ft ISO containers and STANAG flatracks, and loading those with JMICs speeds up the chain; the top handler is designed to be used in tandem with a loader crane to move the JMICs themselves. Manual and hydraulic versions will both be on display.

Government business unit gets a new name

Eurosatory also marks the operational debut of Hiab Defence Logistics, the new name for the company’s Government Business Operations. Hiab says the same specialist team stays in place, drawing on more than four decades of defence work, and that the unit covers system integration, military-grade documentation, operator training and worldwide service support.

The shift matters commercially as well as cosmetically. Hiab’s defence work sits across several of its product lines rather than in a single crane range, and a named unit gives buyers one point of contact for a vehicle that may carry a crane, a hooklift and an attachment set from the same supplier. Hiab lists HIAB, EFFER, ARGOS and ING loader cranes, LOGLIFT forestry cranes and JONSERED recycling cranes among its lifting brands, alongside MULTILIFT hooklifts and skiploaders.

Eurosatory 2026 runs from 15 to 19 June in Paris. Hiab is at ExtPe6b, Booth B65, and says it will publish further material through the unit’s own web pages and social channels during the week.
