Italian customers put the Liebherr MK 88 Plus through its paces at MK Week in Monfalcone
Liebherr Italia hosted a five-day MK Week in Monfalcone from 28 September to 2 October, giving Italian customers hands-on training and live demonstrations with a used MK 88 Plus mobile construction crane supplied through the manufacturer’s ReWork programme.
At the demonstration site, Liebherr ran the MK 88 Plus through its various set-up configurations and operated the jib both horizontally and at luffed positions of 15, 30 and 45 degrees. Power supply was another focus of the week: the crane runs either from a 63-amp mains connection or from its integrated diesel generator.
Training on real-world scenarios
Liebherr crane operators, together with teams from the Liebherr Academy and the Services division, used examples from the field to show how the mobile construction crane can be adapted to different site requirements. Technical discussions ran alongside the live demonstrations, letting participants question Liebherr specialists directly about the crane’s technology, operation and applications.
The taxi crane case
Liebherr positions the MK series as a complement to its mobile crane range for rental fleets. Built around the taxi crane principle, the machines are set up quickly and can complete several jobs in a single day, with erection, dismantling and crane operation handled by one person — removing the need for extra personnel or transport.
Compact dimensions and a high hook height suit the MK 88 Plus to confined sites and buildings with high interfering edges, while the height-adjustable cab can be positioned along the tower to keep the operator’s view of the load clear. The jib is adjusted at the touch of a button, and assistance systems support precise, safe load handling.
Plus mode and ReWork machines
The crane’s Plus option raises lifting capacity by up to ten per cent over standard operation and is activated directly from the crane control. It works by restricting the crane to one movement at a time, reducing dynamic loads so that capacity reserves can be used in a targeted way under defined operating conditions.
The demonstration crane itself was a used machine from Liebherr’s ReWork programme, under which MK cranes are inspected and refurbished at the factory before being delivered ready for work. Liebherr pitches the scheme as a lower-cost entry into the MK class, with certified quality, quick availability and manufacturer support.
